Thanksgiving 2021

Thanksgiving, the one holiday in which gifts nor candy bring out the smiles but family and friends do. This year, focus less time judging the turkey and stuffing and more time reflecting all that we have, which we take for granted each and every day. Soak in the moment and snap some photos to create ever lasting memories, be appreciative of all those who don’t get the holiday off and remember the small things like being able to see or hear all the affection around you. From all of us here at Western Mutual and Arizona Home Insurance, we wish you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Winter Prep

The holiday season is a time for being together with family and friends while making memories that will last a lifetime. This time of year is also a reminder to be grateful for what we have and thankful that we are able to celebrate it with loved ones. Western Mutual Insurance Group would like to extend the warmest of all wishes to all of our insured’s and their families. Our sincerest gratitude for allowing us to protect your home for over 75 years and hopefully for many more years to come.

As we head into these colder months, here are things that will help you prepare for your home for winter.

  • Check your spouts and gutters, clear them of any debris to ensure proper drainage
  • Clean chimney and have spark arrestor replaced, this will reduce the chance of an ember fire
  • Test your smoke and CO2 alarms, this may sound obvious but many homeowner’s forget
  • Shut down you sprinkler system and drain faucets, this avoids freezing and pipe breakages
  • Check trees, clear any overhanging branches and remove leaves from roof gutters
  • Be prepared with flashlights and batteries, cold weather can sometimes bring power outages

We hope you stay safe and warm this season!

Staying Warm This Winter

Getting yourself ready for winter is a snap. Gloves? Check! Scarf? Right here. But readying your home for a long, cold season is another story. So, until someone invents a turtleneck sweater you can put around your house when it gets cold, there’s some prepping you need to do. This includes having alternate heating options if you decide not to use your fireplace or if you don’t have one.

First, consider thick clothing / blankets. It’s always more efficient to heat the body than trying to heat a room. So start with the basics, a pile of thick-insulating clothing and blankets can help warm you up quickly.

Remember to also have hand warmers on deck, these small long-lasting pocket warmers are great for continuous heat. They are also affordable and found at most hardware and convenient stores.

Another thing to consider is checking the seal of doors and windows and inserting draft guards where necessary. By reinforcing the seal around your windows and doors, you can eliminate cold air from entering.

Furthermore, adding thick curtains (preferably wool or cotton) can add an additional barrier of protection from the icy temperatures outside.

And of course, using electric space heaters can add the perfect touch of warmth your room was needing. If using a space heater, look for a model that shuts off automatically if the heater falls over. Place the heater on a level, hard and nonflammable surface in the home.

Stay safe and stay warm!

Simply, Thank You

Tomorrow is the day that we honor the more than 18 million brave men and women that have served our nation. Many whom left behind their family, loved ones and all they knew to stand on the frontlines and protect this country. Without those sacrifices from these valiant individuals we would be unable to enjoy so many things that we have grown accustom to. As a company, family member and proud citizen, together we would like to honor our veterans on this special day as well as each and every day.

Filing A Claim 101

As a preferred insurance company, we understand that filing a claim is not only stressful but can seem difficult to do. These unforeseen events cause more than just property damage but also leave you feeling hopeless and emotional. We want to let you know that help is available.

When discovering a potential claim at your home, we would like to remind you of some tips that’ll make the process easier:

Do; call your insurance company right away, do not wait for the risk or damage to become bigger.

Do; take steps to make reasonable temporary repairs to protect your property and you from further damage and loss. Don’t attempt any repairs that require a licensed professional, just any minor work to help prevent the loss from causing further damage.

Do; notify the police and file a report if the loss is due to theft.

Do; shut the water off immediately if you find water has started to cause damage or has flooded any space in your house.

Do; keep records such as receipts, photos and videos of your items within your home.

Do; hire licensed contractors to perform work on your home, even if no related to a claim… this is for your protection.

Don’t; call a third party to clean-up, patch or inspect conditions without contacting your insurance first.

Don’t; assume damages will not be covered or are not severe enough to be repaired. Call at the first sign and ask so that work can begin immediately.

Don’t; waste time looking for your policy information to call, we have several methods of locating your account.

We sincerely hope these tips will assist you if and when you need them.
